    IN APRIL

    On Saturday, April 23rd the children's room will be enjoying an "Earth Day/ Rainforest Romp" beginning at 11:00 in the morning.

    Children can look forward to stories and activities that will focus on our environment, and the beauty and wonder of the rainforests.

    Activities will include stories and environmentally friendly crafts like handmade recycled paper, planting a mini terrarium, making a paper bead necklace, decorating a bug box, making and enjoying mud pudding, and much more.

    IN MAY

    On Saturday, May 14th beginning at 2:00 the children's room will host the "Wayfinder Experience" group for a "Fantasy Fling".

    These energetic young people have developed a fun and a completely unique program. Combining theatre, sports, teambuilding, fine arts, and play for children ages 6-16.

    With foam swords participants engage in a theatrical, and exciting game of capture the flag. A period of introduction is included in the beginning of the program, in which participants are lead to understand the acting, drama, and rules of the game. Two teams are created, strategies are planned, participants are armed (with safe foam swords) and the battle can begin.

    Imaginations are a must during this program. We will transport ourselves to a place of knights, and fairies, dragons, and elves. If you'd like to arrive in costume, you may. Just make sure you can move comfortably.

    A few post adventure snacks and crafts will be set up as well.

    IN JUNE

    Make sure you come to the Library Fair on Saturday, June 11th and visit the "children's area."

    I will be there with the EVERYTHING IS 25 cents set up. All activities are only 25 cents!!!

    Activities will include :

    • Fuse beads
    • plus a 25 cent toy shop

    The 2005 Caldecott and Newbery award Winners have been Announced

    The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

    This award was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It has been awarded annually since 1938.

    The Caldecott winner for 2005 year is:

    Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes -- It is the story of a Kitten who mistakes the full moon for a bowl of milk. She ends up tired, wet, and hungry trying to reach it.
